The crime branch control team with the NM Joshi Marg police station conducted a raid at the Fortune Gourmet Specialties Pvt Ltd in Sun Mill compound, Lower Parel on Friday evening and seized food products which would certainly not be good enough to suit the five star standards they were meant for.

The food products seized from the said premises are said to have been mainly imported from various South East Asian and European countries. The list of these high end eatables includes rare cheeses, meats and other ready to eat snacks. According to the police while these eatables would be passed off as the best quality products considering their lineage they lost their value by the time they hit the five star hotel kitchens. “The modus operandi followed by the accused was to remove the tags specifying the manufacturing date and the expiry date of the products. Most of the time these eatables reached the five star hotels well past their expiry dates,” said a senior police officer. The total value of the goods seized is said to be Rs3,08,830.

The police made a couple of arrests during the raid. “Those arrested have been produced in the court. However, divulging too many details may hamper further investigations,” said the
officer.

The police were also secretive about the names of the hotels which were supplied with these products. But according to sources, these products made their way to most of the well known five starts across the city.
