The Kashimira police on Monday arrested three bookies, who were involved in online betting on the ongoing KFC tournament in Australia.
The arrested persons — identified as Kirit Sony, Pawan Swami and Kamlesh Mukhiya — were produced before the Thane sessions court which granted them bail, the police said, adding that 64 mobile phones, one laptop, one TV set and a walkman have been recovered from them.
Speaking to DNA, assistant inspector S Shaikh of the local crime branch said, “We received information that some persons involved in betting on the KFC cricket tournament have gathered in flat No.
505 of Aditya apartment at Jangid. Accordingly, raid was conducted on Monday night and three persons were arrested red handed while betting. However, the kingpin of this racket, identified as Ramlal Jawar, managed to escape. We have launched a manhunt for him.”
The police have lodged a case under sections 4 and 5 of the gambling Act and section 25(a) of the telegraph Act.
