The Goa Hindu Association — one of the oldest cultural and social welfare organisations representing the Hindu Goans in the city and known for its contribution in the field of Marathi theatre — celebrated its 90th anniversary recently.

Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission Dr Anil Kakodkar, noted director, actor and chief of the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) Vijay Mehta, Marathi theatre person and classical singer Ramdas Kamat, retired high court judge GD Kamat, Marathi writer from Goa Sriram Kamat and eminent Marathi music composer Pandit Bhaskar Chandavarkar (posthumously) were felicitated on the occasion.

GD Kamat, a resident of Goa, pointed out that the association should come forward and work for the betterment of the state. "Goa got independence in 1961. Since then not even a single MW of electricity is produced in the state. Though the water reservoir in the state is enough, there are many areas which face a crisis. The Mumbaikar Goans should use the association as a platform to stop such things," he said.
