Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik who is having a hard time in India ever since the news of his impending marriage to tennis icon Sania Mirza was announced, was saved by Mumbai police from major embarrassment on Saturday.

According to police, they received reliable information that a political party was planning to blacken Malik’s face as soon as he stepped out of the airport. “Since Malik is an international sportsperson, such a move from a political party would surely cause problems for everyone,” said a senior police officer, on condition of anonymity. He added that the police had already chalked out their plan to save Malik this embarrassment.

The officer added, “Normally, after clearing immigration, a person comes out of the airport with his baggage. But, this would be risky for Malik. With the help of airport officials, after clearing immigration, Malik was escorted from the international to the domestic terminal within the airport premises. Malik later took a flight for Hyderabad from the domestic airport.”
