Acting on a complaint from neighbours about loud music blaring from a bungalow on Sunday morning, when the Amboli police reached the place to stop the party, they were shocked to find the guests indulging in indecent acts.

The high-profile party, which was attended by more than 130 guests including actor Bobby Darling, was held at Spanish Villa in Amboli, Andheri (West). The bungalow is usually rented out for film shootings.

“When our teams reached the bungalow at 2.30 am, the guests, all men, were found behaving indecently. We detained them and fined them Rs1,200 each under section 110 of the Bombay Police Act,” said Pratap Dighavkar, deputy commissioner of police, zone 9.

All guests were allowed to go after paying the fine.

Two were also fined Rs1,200 each for organising the party and serving liquor without prior permission.

Darling said: “I was invited as a celebrity guest by one of my gay friends, who claimed it was his birthday party. I did not know it was a gay party. I never go to any gay parties. I was not in the room when the police arrived, I was talking on the phone on the lawns.”
“Later I found that no permission was taken for the party. And I did not behave indecently... I went to police station and signed on the papers as asked by the police. I did not pay any fine, the party organisers must have paid it on my behalf.”

According to sources, tickets costing Rs450 each were sold through online and text messages for the “gay party”. Sources added that when the police stopped the party, the guests got angry and alleged that they were targetted as it was a “gays’ gathering”.
The police, however, did not come on record saying whether it was a gay party.

“The music was being played at the party beyond the stipulated time. Three organisers, including the DJ, were arrested and released later. I don’t know whether it was a gay party,” said Vishwas Nangre-Patil, additional commissioner of police, west region.
