The Powai police on Sunday have arrested two more persons in the rape case of the 15-year-old girl. The arrested persons have been identified as Mohan Chand Shri Premchand Shyam, 45, and Chandrabhan Satya Narayan Gupta, 45.

Shyam’s name in the case came to light after police interrogated Shantabai Gaikwad, the woman who lured the girl in the pretext of giving her a job and pushed her into flesh trade. Gaikwad was arrested on November 2.

Shyam, a real estate agent, allegedly raped the girl in a flat in Saki Naka. He fled to Chandigarh a few days ago when reports of the case appeared in the media.

However, police traced his phone records and eventually zeroed in on him in Chandigarh on Saturday. Shyam, it is believed, had sent the victim to other clients in cahoots with Gaikwad.

The victim gave birth to a premature baby on October 17 at her residence and then was admitted to Rajawadi Hospital on October 21 with the help of a social worker, who blew the whistle in the case. A case of rape was registered on November 1.

Shyam has been booked for rape and child trafficking. He will be produced in court on Monday.  His arrest led to the arrest Gupta, also a real estate agent. Police are carrying out a panchnama at a flat in Chandivli where Gupta allegedly raped the victim.

“These arrests will help nail the other suspects very soon. Their DNA samples will be taken and matched with that of the baby,” said a senior police officer.

It is suspected that Chand and Gupta are known to senior police inspector Arun Borude, who is under police scanner for allegedly raping the girl.
Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched for a youngster who, according to the victim, had also raped her.

Meanwhile, the Emerald Complex housing society has decided to sack Borude from the post of treasurer of the society. He was holding the post for the past five years. A senior member of the society’s committee said, “When Borude was made the treasurer, no one knew that he would be involved in such things. Though it has not been proved that he is involved in the case, we do not want a person who is under suspicion of such a serious offence to be on the committee.

A society committee meeting will pass the resolution to remove him from the post.”
