The Khar police on Thursday arrested a model for allegedly threatening a cosmetic surgeon that she would register a case of molestation against him. The accused, Mahee Shaikh, was later released on bail.

The police said that Shaikh had approached complainant Dr Vijay Sharma last year for cosmetic treatment of her pimple scars. Dr Sharma, who has several celebrity clients, charged her Rs50,000 for the treatment. He claimed that the accused was asked to visit after the treatment for a follow-up, but she did not turn up and came only after a year.

Sources said that since the accused felt that the treatment did not match her expectations, she started to demand her money back.

However, when the doctor refused to return the money and promised to perform the treatment on her once again for free, the model refused. Instead, she threatened him that if he did not return the money, she would entangle him in a false case of molestation.

However, the entire conversation was captured on one of the closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in different sections of the clinic. The cameras were placed last year by Dr Sharma after another model charged him with molestation last year. And earlier in 2008, a television journalist had also alleged that he had misbehaved with her.

Sources added that as a precautionary measure, Dr Sharma ensures that his wife or mother are present at his clinic while dealing with female patients.

Officials said that Shaikh has been captured on camera threatening Dr Sharma. This footage was handed over to the police by the victim.

The police, after verification of the case, arrested Shaikh, a model by profession. Shaikh resides in the suburbs and claims to have worked in several television serials, advertisements and other shows.

“Further investigation is on in the case,” said senior police inspector Mangesh Pote of Khar police station.

Shaikh, on her part, said that she went to the clinic only to retrieve her money as the treatment she received was not satisfactory.
