The LT Marg police on Friday arrested Mohansingh Gulabsingh Rao, a jeweller, for allegedly duping another jeweller, Omprakash Jethmal, to the tune of Rs1 crore. The arrested person had taken gold jewellery from the victim on credit but never made the payment.

Rao worked with Jethmal at the latter’s jewellery store called Marudhar Jewellers in Chira Bazaar from 1990 to 2002. “In 2004, Jethmal started a showroom in Zaveri Bazaar. Rao was also present for the inauguration. He allegedly took gold ornaments worth Rs1.06 crore from Jethmal on credit for seven days.

Jethmal tried to establish contact with him when he did not get back to him, but his efforts went in vain,” said an officer.
Jethmal learnt that Rao had allegedly sold the ornaments to other jewellers. “We were on Rao’s trail. There was specific information that he is staying in a rented flat in Borivli.

Accordingly, he was arrested on Friday night,” the officer said.
