Mumbai 'hawaldar' arrested for demanding Bribe

The Anti-Corruption Branch of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a hawaldar, working with Command Works Engineer (Naval Work) in Navy Nagar area of Mumbai for favouring applicants during the recruitment process.

According to the CBI, hawaldar Rajeev Rajput was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs3000 each from many complainants for rectifying the mistakes in application form of recruitment for the post of Mate-Mason. He also demanded Rs1 lakh from each candidate to provide them with the question paper before the written examination and Rs1 lakh from each candidate on the day of the interview for passing the interview.

"After secret verification of the allegation, a trap was laid by the officers of CBI at the residential premises of one of the complainants, where Rajput came to collect the bribe money.  During the personal search one more application and Rs12500 were also found and seized.  The investigation is under progress," said a CBI official, adding that the search is in progress at his residence and office.

Rajput was arrested and produced before the court. He has been remanded to CBI custody till May 9.
