‘Mumbai has enough eye hospitals’

Dr SS Badrinath, vitreo-retinal surgeon and chairperson emeritus of Chennai-based Sankara Nethralaya said Mumbai has enough eye hospitals.

"But we can come to the city if people from the city support us like Marwadis of Kolkata did. But as of now, there is no such plan," said Dr Badrinath. He was in the city on Monday for the launch of a book Insight: A passion for Compassion based on the success story of the world-class hospital.

Thanking Maharashtra for giving him Vasanthi, his wife who is also a doctor, Dr Badrinath said: "We started with a seed of help from a Mumbai-based philanthropist CU Shah 33 years ago. I owe a lot to Mumbai."

The hospital’s medical director Dr Tarun Sharma said they get 400 to 500 patients from Mumbai annually.
