Officers of the crime branch (unit XII) arrested six persons on Saturday for kidnapping a 10-year-old boy, who was abducted from near his school in Thakur Complex, Kandivli (East), on Wednesday.

The arrested are Ajay Tiwari, 27, Shivam Virendra Kumar alias Dr Srivastava, 27, Santosh Shukla alias Beta, 28, Vijay Mahindra Pratap Singh, 23, Narendra Rahirashi, 24, and Bharat Maurya, 21. Tiwari, Shukla and Singh reside in the same area at Poisar in Kandivli (East), while Rahirashi resides in Borivli (East) and Maurya is a resident of Nalasopara. They kidnapped Pankaj Tiwari, a Std V student, on Wednesday evening from outside his school, Thakur Vidyamandir.

“Shukla was working as a driver at the victim’s house, but his nature was not good so his father Ramchandra Tiwari sacked him. Tiwari supplies fish to five-star hotels also dabbles in the real estate business.

“Shukla was aware that the family is well off, so he planned to kidnap Pankaj for ransom. Shukla then gathered five friends and hired a white-coloured Tata Indica for ‘Shirdi Darshan’ for three days from a travel agency,” said senior police inspector Milind Khetle of crime branch (unit XII).

“They then kidnapped Pankaj and asked Singh to stay at the spot to update to them about the next move of the parents. They kidnapped him and kept him 10 kms away from Dahisar Checknaka and called his mother for the ransom.

“But they decided to cancel the plan after Singh informed them about the heavy police presence and nakabandis in the area,” Khetle.

They then put Pankaj on a BEST bus at Dahisar Checknaka and asked him to get off at the last stop in Borivili. It was here that someone saw him crying and took him to the Borivli police station when his parents could not be found. With the help of the police, he then returned to his house.

During investigations, when the police checked everyone known to Tiwari, it found Shukla missing from his house. They then laid a trap and arrested him when he returned.

Shukla then revealed the whereabouts of the other accused, and they were arrested from the Borivli area. Police have sized the car, too.
