Two days after a constable ended his life, another city policeman on duty allegedly attempted suicide in the Fort area on Monday, by shooting himself in the head with his service revolver.

The victim, identified as Rajaram Pawar, 50, was deployed at the Share Bazaar area. Pawar shot himself once at the right temple with his revolver, said Sanjeev Kokil, senior inspector at MRA Marg police station.

Kokil said Pawar, a resident of Vashi, was attached with the MRA Marg police station. He was rushed to JJ Hospital where is undergoing an operation. “His condition is critical. We still don’t know why he took the extreme step. We have informed his family about the incident,” he said.

The police said Pawar, who was diabetic, had not been keeping well for the past couple of months and seemed depressed.

Vimal, Pawar’s wife, said her husband had left home around 4pm on Sunday. “On Sunday, we tried to reach him on his cellphone, but he did not answered our calls,” she said.
