Mumbai: Mira Road subdivisional police officer Maithili Jha said the mother of the two girls, whose parents are accused of raping and abetting rapes, was showing neither remorse nor regret for her actions.
Jha said when she asked the mother how she could be so cruel to her daughters, the mother replied very calmly, 'What's wrong in that?' She said the mother had further said, 'It is up to my daughters now whether to keep our home intact or to destroy it.'
Talking about the two daughters, Jha said while the elder sister wants to kill her parents, the younger sister retains a soft corner for her mother and has pleaded with the police to set her mother free.
Jha said she had questioned the elder sister on why she kept quiet for so long, to which the girl had replied that on many occasions she had thought of committing suicide.
The elder sister told Jha that she also thought of running away from the house or telling about their case to someone, but could not gather the courage to do so because she feared for her younger sister.
The elder sister told the police that had she run away, then the younger sister would have been left alone to suffer gravely because of which she (the elder sister) always dropped her plans at the last minute.
