The Goregaon police, investigating the suicide case of an 18-year-old FYJC student on Wednesday, are now following a lead given by the girl’s mother.
According to Savita Nikam, her daughter Diksha had left home along with two men on Wednesday afternoon. Savita said she was later informed that Diksha had died under a train between Jogeshwari and Goregaon stations.
Initially, a case of accidental death was registered with the Borivli government railway police (GRP), but was later transferred to Goregoan police station after Savita approached the police saying she suspected foul play. Diksha was a student of a Malad college and lived with her parents at Goregaon (west).
Savita said something must have happened with the two men, which is why her daughter jumped in front of the train, an officer of Goregaon police station said. “We will trace the two men who she left the house with on Wednesday,” said, senior inspector, Surendra Pathankar of Goregaon police station.
Borivli GRP senior inspector PM Karyakarte said, “Diksha’s face was completely mutilated. But, we fortunately found her mobile phone and informed her family,” Karyakarte said.
An officer of Borivli GRP said on condition of anonymity that Diksha’s mother allegedly told the Goregaon police that her daughter was having a love affair with someone who refused to marry her, hence she committed suicide. The Goregaon police have denied this.
