Kumari Rajshree Parmar Memorial Foundation, an NGO working on creating awareness about road safety, has observed a 10-11% increase in road accidents, and finds indiscipline driving as the main reason.

The foundation’s chairman and managing trustee, Chandamal Parmar, said, “Not only has accidents increased but even the number of deaths in road mishaps has risen by 3-4%. The issue of lack of road safety has now become a national problem.”

According to the observation, the major reasons for rise in road accidents are that road users are violating traffic rules, Motor Vehicles Act 1988, and are risking not only their own lives but other road users also.

Parmar said, “Overspeeding, poor visibility and driving under the influence of alcohol are the key risk factors which can lead to accidents, besides overtaking from wrong side and parking the breakdown vehicles on the road with no tail lights.”

He also highlighted the poor condition of roads, non-use of traffic signs and encroachments for causing mishaps.
