Two of the most-awaited transport infrastructure projects in the city will not have a negative impact on its environment, say officials of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
While the monorail will be a quiet affair with rubber tyres and zero use of fossil fuel, the metro will contribute in reducing the number of cars from the city roads, says a written statement by the authority.
“Monorail is free of air and noise pollution. The vibration-free monorail does not require any fossil fuel and as it runs on a narrow 0.8-metre beam with the help of rubber tyres, it produces very little noise.
“The metro will play its part by reducing the private transportation. Due to its AC coaches, a lot of people will be tempted to use the new mode of public transport,” the statement says.
