Imadultullah Hasantullah, 19, who allegedly molested a 10-year-old Parsi girl at a popular South Mumbai club on Sunday night, had sneaked into the premises, the police said.
Hasantullah has been remanded in judicial custody by a local court.
DNA had reported on Wednesday that Hasantullah was nabbed by a few foreigners after he molested the girl by the poolside of Breach Candy Club.
“Investigations have revealed that he worked as a labourer,” said Sanjay Mohite, deputy commissioner of police (zone II).
According to sources, Hasantullah entered the club premises as there was no security guard standingat the gate. “When he saw the victim, he assumed she was a foreigner,” a police officer from Gamdevi police station said.
“He thought she would be too afraid to raise an alarm if he misbehaved with her. On seeing her alone by the poolside, Hasantullah grabbed her and allegedly molested her.” The incident occurred around 8.30pm.
The child immediately went to her parents who were having dinner at the club house and narrated the whole incident. On seeing the girl with her parents, Hasantullah tried to flee. he was, however, caught by a few foreigners present there, the officer said.
Andrea Drego, duty manager at the pool, refused to comment on the issue. He, however, said: “Our honourary secretary will talk on this matter. We have taken necessary actions and have enhanced security in the club. I cannot tell you anything beyond this.”
