With 95% of the work of the World Bank-funded Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road being completed, the Kanjurmarg rail overbridge (ROB) is the only thorn in the otherwise 11-km wide road that will provide east-west connectivity.

While the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) awaits permission to construct two 30m long spans on the ROB, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) party workers have threatened of a morcha against the delays.

“We need the permission and blocks over a period of 45 days to complete the widening of the ROB, which remains the only reason for a long bottleneck on to an otherwise traffic jam-free road. However, Central Railway officials have not been able to give us temporary blocks for our construction,” said a senior official of MSRDC.

He confirmed that political party workers have threatened a morcha at the MSRDC’s Bandra office, if the work is not complete soon.

“We have received threat calls from MNS workers who called themselves party workers of Mangesh Sangle, MLA from Vikhroli,” said another MSRDC official.

“The public as well as parties are blaming us for delaying the ROB. However, they must realise that unless the Central Railway does not give us the necessary permissions and blocks, we cannot start constructing the span,” said an official from the MSRDC.
