Four days after the monorail mishap, which claimed the lives of two contract labourers, the contractor, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), and the consultant, Louis Berger, submitted their reports to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

However, officials were tight-lipped about the findings.

The authority on Wednesday released a statement which said the reports submitted by L&T as well as Louis Berger were under scrutiny. “The findings of the reports will be examined internally and will also be forwarded to the two-member inquiry committee appointed by MMRDA,” said Dilip Kawathkar, MMRDA spokesperson, in the statement.

According to sources close to the development, it was the combination of mechanical as well as human error which seems to have caused the accident. “After two successful alignments of the curvature beams, the workers may have been a little complacent at the third spot, which is where the accident took place. This may have caused the mishap,” said a senior official.

MMRDA has also set up a two member committee which will investigate the reasons behind the mishap. The committee is expected to submit its report within 15 days.
