Crime branch officers on Friday caught a 38-year-old man and a 13-year-old boy in connection with thefts at the residence of retired deputy municipal commissioner GR Khairnar's residence at DN Nagar.

The duo has been identified as Mohsin Shaikh (name changed) and Yahya Ahmed Khan, residents of Hanuman Nagar hutments in Vile Parle (West). Shaikh, an orphan, stays with his grandmother.

On October 6, Khairnar had registered a complaint with the police stating that a laptop and two mobile phones had been stolen.

"The two had conducted three house break-ins at Khairnar's house. We have recovered two laptops and four mobile phones," said Rakesh Maria, joint commissioner of police, crime. "The boy is very slim and short. He used to climb the sewage pipe and get into the house through gaps in the grills to steal the valuables. They were searching for customers to sell off the stolen goods."
