Milk adulteration racket busted in Maharshtra

In one of the biggest raids in recent times, the Food and Drugs Administration, (FDA) Maharashtra busted a milk adulteration racket and arrested eight people .

According to FDA joint commissioner for Brihanmumbai region, Suhas Chaudhari, FDA assistant commissioner RC Runwal and Kishore Gore along with CD Rathod, AB Khule, lady inspectors SS Narwane and VV Rupanwar had specific information about milk adulteration being carried out in Poysar and Dahisar area of North Mumbai. “Our officials raided three places in Poysar, one in Kandivali and two places in Dahisar in the wee hours on Saturday.
They found a 897 litres of adulterated milk. worth approximately Rs23,861,” said Chaudhari. There was one woman among those arrested.

The adulterators were caught red-handed cutting through the plastic bags of reputed milk brands and adding water before sealing them, said Chaudhari. “The adulteration was carried on simultaneously at Tangwali chawl, Sangwel chawl and Mangwal chawl in Poysar; New Chawl in Kandivali; and Shivaji Nagar and Panchsheel Nagar slums of Dahisar. Our officials were also assisted by BMC food inspectors,” added Chaudhari.

Those who are arrested are: Krishna Zhalan, Saidulla Udalkodala, Lawnya Gathi, Ankush Wadalkonda, Virendra Panugulla, Ravindra Gaud and Ajay Kumar. The milk supplier Shankar, however, is absconding. An FIR has been registered against these adulterators in MHB police station.
