Medha Patkar detained in Mumbai; released

Social activist Medha Patkar was today detained by the Nirmal Nagar police in Mumbai after she and other activists tried to stop demolition of an illegal construction.

Patkar was taken away from the site, and released later.

"We detained Patkar for unlawful assembly and for restraining a public servant from doing his duty but she was released later", said Prashant Bagade, senior inspector of Nirmal Nagar police.

Patkar alleged that demolition drive in Jawahar Nagar area was illegal.
