Jennifer Dias, principal of St Mary’s School, Mazgaon, who was barred by the SSC board from entering the school premises during the exams, has got the order withdrawn.
Dias had moved court against the order by the education inspector of the South Mumbai zone. The order was passed by the state board barring three officials of the school management from entering the school premises as they feared their presence would encourage malpractices in the exam hall.
Reinforcing the board’s order, a notice was issued by the education inspector of south zone on March 2. The board exams began from March 3.
The department has now withdrawn the last three lines of the order, which states ‘you are hereby informed that you are not to see any work connected with the Std X exam. You are not to assist in any work of the Std X exam. During exams, do not make the rounds of the classrooms’.
Father Joaquim Tellis, the school’s administrator, who was also implicated in the letter, said, “There was no reason for the department to pass such an order. Truth will prevail in any case.” Father Leslie Rebello, the school’s secretary, was the third official.
Education inspector, Suman Shinde, said, “I haven’t read the order. We have not completely withdrawn our letter. The principal is still not the deputy conductor of the board exams.” As to why they withdrew orders of barring the principal, Shinde said she would have to read the order.
