Pune-based NGOs, Deep Griha Society’s DISHA project, Wake Up Pune and Santulan will host Melava+, a matrimonial meet for the people living with HIV, on August 7.

The event will be held from 9 am to 5 pm at Maulana Abdul Kalam Memorial Hall, Koregaon Park.

Avinash Chakranarayan, team leader of DISHA project, said that people living with HIV often find it difficult to find the right partner. Melava+ will help them in finding their partners, he said.

According to Wake Up Pune coordinator Kassie Dantzler, not many resources are available to help people with HIV find a spouse.

“For many of them even finding friends or community can be difficult. Wake Up Pune hopes to facilitate new and meaningful relationships for such people,” he added.

Last year’s event, organised by these NGOs, saw participation of 150 candidates and their families from Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat.

Twelve couples got engaged at the event and several of these couples are now expecting babies.

With participants registering even from Delhi, the organisers are confident that this year’s event would be a bigger success than last year.

While female participants are allowed to bring two relatives, male participants can be accompanied by only one. Travel costs of female participants will be sponsored on production of proof of travel (a bus or train ticket). For details, call on 9665827180 / 9404963335.
