In the recent Marine Drive accident where a minor mowed down a senior citizen and injured two police constables, the police have found out that the black Honda city, which the accused was driving, did not belong to his father.

On Monday, the minor’s parents, who were in Dubai when the incident took place, came back to the city and gave their statements to the Marine Drive police.

According to the police, the Honda City belonged to Dinesh Jogani, who is the minor’s relative. The father of the accused was going to Dubai and had called for Jogani’s car for a drop to the airport. “The minor’s father’s car was experiencing problems and that is the reason why he called for Jogani’s car,” said an investigating officer from the Marine Drive police station.

The driver, who dropped the minor’s father, did not take the car back to Jogani’s residence and parked it at the minor’s house in Tardeo. The police have now booked Jogani under the Motor Vehicles Act, for which Jogani paid a fine of Rs1,000, said a police officer.

The minor’s parents and the driver were unaware that the minor had taken the car.

The juvenile committee, which is handling the case, will once again take the statements of the parents of the accused, as he is a minor.

On July 18, the minor, with his friend beside him, was driving the black Honda city near KC College. The minor lost control of the car and hit two cops and a senior citizen, Sampath Maroo, who passed away.

The minor’s parents on Monday expressed their regret at Maroo's death.
