A friend of Neeraj Grover, Nishant Lall, told that court on Thursday that Maria Susairaj was insecure about her relationship with the TV executive. A few days before allegedly killing him, she had asked Lall whether Grover would cheat on her.
Lall identified in the court the gold chain and the locket worn by Grover which were found near his charred remains. “Lall’s deposition brings out the motive to the murder,” said public prosecutor RV Kini.
Susairaj and her fiance, naval officer Emile Jerome, allegedly killed Grover on May 7 last year, hacking the body into pieces before dumping it I the jungles of Manor.
Lall said that he had met the couple on May 5. “Susairaj was really drunk. I told Grover to take her to my flat,” he said. “Once there, the conversations between them turned personal. Susairaj even asked me if Grover would cheat on her.”
On May 6, Lall had invited a group of friends to his house for dinner. “Grover, however, told me that he was at Susairaj’s flat. Although we pestered him to join us, he did not come,” Lall said.
The next day, Susairaj called Lall and told him that Grover had left her flat late in the night and had forgotten his cellphone at her place. In the evening, Lall and one of his friends accompanied Susairaj to the Malad police station to register a missing complaint. “We first went to her house in Malad. Emile had opened the door,” Lall said.
