After he found his bicycle damaged by some miscreants last month in Andheri, an irked youth went on a destruction spree and set 10 motorcycles on fire in the following days. On making inquiries in the locality, the Amboli police zeroed in on the culprit.

Bhushan Salab Shelar, 22, is a resident of Vitthalwadi in Azad Nagar No 1 in Andheri.

The police said, someone set nearly 10 bikes on fire in Vitthalwadi in the wee hours of January 31. Those whose bikes were set ablaze then approached the Amboli police station and filed a complaint against an unknown person, inspector Ramesh Kadam said.

Following the complaint, the police had interrogated several people in the locality and learnt that one Bhushan Shelar was missing from his residence after the incident. “This aroused suspicion, and we kept a discreet watch on his house. When he arrived home last Friday evening, he was questioned. He admitted to the crime,” said sub inspector A Rajge.

In the last week of January, Shelar was shocked to find his cycle missing from the place where he usually parked it. “On searching, he found his cycle abandoned some distance away. It was clear that someone had fidgeted with his cycle.

He added that he set one bike on fire on January 31. Around 10 bikes were parked in the queue, and all were burnt. “He wanted to teach all the bikers a lesson because he did not know who the miscreant was. He believed that one of the bikers was responsible for damaging his cycle,” said Kadam.
