An argument over a minor delay in conducting a routine procedure for a senior citizen got out of hand at Hadapsar’s Noble Hospital resulting in two non-cognisable (NC) police complaints filed at the nearby police chowki.

Anurag Sharma of Manjiri has lodged a complaint of manhandling against hospital staffers alleging that he was pushed and abused by the latter after a verbal spat. The hospital authorities filed a police complaint against Sharma.

The drama broke out on Monday when Anurag visited the hospital with his mother, six-month-old child and father Rajendra Sharma, who was undergoing physiotherapy at the hospital.

“My father had paralytic attack and was admitted here from January 25-February 5. Post-discharge, a feeding tube was passed through his nose to stomach. The doctor had told us that he will remove it after my father can eat food without the tube. We visited the hospital on Monday to have it removed as we could feed him without it. But the lady doctor refused stating that she would first ask our family doctor and told us to return after an hour of physiotherapy,” said Anurag. He alleged that after he returned after one hour, the staffers again asked him to wait for some more time and did not pay any attention for another one hour.

“My child was hungry. I lost my cool and yelled at the staff for making us wait for a simple procedure. They immediately removed the tube; it took less than five minutes. But when as I was about to leave, a senior doctor and a few others surrounded me claiming in Marathi that I had abused a lady doctor and North Indians like me should learn local manners. They pushed me around and my mother and child started crying,” he claimed.

CEO Dr Dilip Mane claimed that he had no knowledge of the incident when contacted by DNA on Tuesday. The hospital director, Dr Mangesh Lingayat, called back in a few minutes to explain that Anurag was at fault as he used foul language for a lady doctor.

“He wasn’t manhandled. Our staff told him to stop abusing or they would be forced to file a police complaint. The man got scared and left but to avoid possible police action, he must have filed a false complaint,” he said.
