The case of extortion and casteist atrocity filed against former additional superintendent of police Meghsham Malegaonkar of Pune rural will now be investigated by the state criminal investigation department (CID).

Constable Bhima Yashwant Londhe (26), who was working under Malegaonkar and was arrested for raping a minor girl, had filed the case.

Judicial magistrate (first class) Manoot Tokale of Saswad court had directed the Saswad police to file a case of extortion against Malegaonkar; deputy superintendents of police Sharmista Walawalkar and Ashok Nakate; sub-inspector SD Vasnik and assistant police inspector SG Topane.

The directives were issued after the constable from Saswad filed a private case in the court alleging that the senior police official has been demanding Rs5 lakh from him to hush up the matter.
Londhe was arrested along with API Nanasaheb Bhujbal on February 14 for alleged involvement in raping an underaged girl, issuing threats to silence her and forcing her to terminate the pregnancy.

Investigating officer and deputy superintendent of police N Mittewad told DNA, “The matter has been handed over to the state CID to ensure fair investigation.”

Malegaonkar said, “It will be good for me, as fair investigation will be done by the CID.”
