Malaria, swine flu claim 1 each in Mumbai

Rain-related illnesses have claimed two more lives. While a 50-year-old female from Antop Hill succumbed to suspected malaria on August 28, taking the malaria toll since August to 47, another 25-year-old male from Mahim died of suspected leptospirosis on August 29. Leptospirosis has claimed six lives in August.

In past 24 hours, civic and private hospitals in the city have seen 431cases of fever, 62 cases of gastroenteritis, three cases of leptospirosis, nine of dengue and 159 cases of malaria.

One patient also succumbed to the H1N1 virus on Monday, taking August’s death toll to five. At least 216 patients have tested positive for the virus so far, said civic health officials.
