The mystery of the shocking suicide by Nidhi Gupta along with her two children on Tuesday deepened on Wednesday when no member of her in-laws’ family, including her husband, claimed her and her children’s bodies from the hospital morgue where they had been kept after the post-mortem.

After waiting for a long time, Nidhi’s father claimed the bodies and his 20-year-old son Rushabh performed the last rites.

Apart from the police, Nidhi’s father, Bimal Jalan, too, had been trying to find out what actually drove his daughter to take such a drastic step.

Already reeling under the shock, Jalan got another one when no one from her in-laws side came to claim her body, and nor did her husband attend the last rites.

“After the incident, I learnt that Nidhi and the children’s bodies have been taken to Bhagwati hospital for the post-mortem. I rushed to
the hospital and there were several questions cropping up in my mind over what prompted Nidhi to end her life along with those of her children. I was expecting answers to all my questions from Nidhi’s in-laws,” said a weeping Jalan.

However, when Jalan reached the hospital, he was shocked to learn that none of Nidhi’s in-laws were present at the hospital to claim her body. “I was very sad as I was expecting them to be there, but no one turned up. I then completed all the formalities and claimed the body,” Jalan said.

However, it later transpired that some members Nidhi’s in-laws went to the hospital afterward, but were informed that the bodies had already been claimed by her father.

“The hospital authorities told Nidhi’s in-laws that if they want to claim the bodies then they would have get a letter from Nidhi’s father, and after completing the due procedure, the bodies can be handed over to them,” said Jalan.

DNA made attempts to get in touch with Nidhi’s husband and her in-laws, but they were unavailable for comment.
