Nidhi Gupta, 32, who jumped to her death after throwing her two children — Gaurav, 6, and Mihika, 3 — from the 19th floor of their Malad building on Tuesday, was physically and mentally tortured by her husband Pawan and in-laws, Bimal Jalan, her father, has alleged.

This statement came even as it transpired that neither Nidhi’s husband nor her in-laws came to claim the bodies of Nidhi and her two children. No one from the Gupta family was present for their last rites.

“My daughter was a level-headed person. She could not have possibly taken such a drastic step without unbearable pressure. She was mentally harassed and physically tortured by her husband and in-laws for the past few years,” Jalan said. “She was doing her MBA. She told me she would come to our home to prepare for her exams.” Jalan went to the police station on Wednesday to record his statement, but had to return home due to ill-health. “I will file a complaint on Thursday.”

“We will take further action after Nidhi’s father gives his statement,” Ramrao Pawar, ACP (north), said. “We have recorded the statements of Pawan and Nidhi’s in-laws. They have no clue about the reason for her suicide,” a police officer said.
