Mumbai: Speaking at a summit organised by Jains to help its brethren to prosper faster, chief minister Ashok Chavan asked the community to look at more and more ways for eco-friendly construction. "Try to do projects that have rain water harvesting, eco-friendly use of electricity and construction and manufacturing," he said.
Chavan was addressing over 10,000 Jains, many of whom are into the construction business. He also demanded a greater public-private partnership.
DNA had reported in its November 6 issue on how they had struck a deal of Rs3,500 core in seven hours. "We will ensure that our future constructions are more and more eco-friendly," said Hemant Shah, president of Jain International Trade Organisation (JITO) and chairperson of Ackruti constructions.
The JITO is holding a two-day Financial Supermarket summit at NSE grounds, Goregaon.
Amongst the demands made to the chief minister was space for a Jain university. "You send me a proposal and we will look into it," said Chavan.
The community offered to adopt ancient places of Jain pilgrimage like Palitana, Shankheshwar, Samet Shikhar and Pavapuri. Help was also at hand for the community with stalls providing services of CAs, financial legal advisors, bankers and lawyers.
