Major General SS Jog on Monday informed the Adarsh commission that the draft of his letter dated April 5, 2000 and addressed to the collector of Mumbai, in which there is “no reference to a garden”, was prepared on the instructions of the general officer commanding (GOC).

Major General AR Kumar, who was the GOC at that time, owns a flat in the controversial Adarsh co-operative housing society.

However, when commission counsel Dipan Merchant asked him again if the draft contained any reference to a garden, Jog said he could not remember.

Jog, who works as provost marshal (in-charge of the military police), HQ New Delhi, has said in an affidavit that in March 2000, the collector had asked the defence department to hand over the plot for a proposed housing society but the Defence Estate Office (DEO) had written a letter to the government only a day later, saying the land did not belong to the defence department.

When defence ministry counsel Dhiren Shah asked him whether he knew anything about the planned housing society prior to the receipt of the letter dated March 29, 2000, Jog said he had no knowledge. “At the relevant time, I was not aware of any members of Adarsh,” said Jog.
