MUMBAI: People drank seawater near the shrine of Haji Maqdoom Baba at Mahim on Friday.

Thousands rushed to the Mahim creek as word spread in the evening that the salty water had "mysteriously" turned sweet.

The "miracle" resulted in a traffic nightmare that continued well past midnight as the crowds swelled to Dadar and beyond.

Doctors have cautioned against drinking the water.
