Maharashtra will follow HC directions in MSC bank case: Minister

Co-operation minister Harshvardhan Patil said the high court had asked for an affidavit from the Home Department in this regard.

The Maharashtra Government on Tuesday said that it would follow the directions given by the high court regarding irregularities in the now dissolved Maharashtra Co-operative Bank (MSC) bank.

Replying to the budgetary demands of the Co-operation Department, Co-operation minister Harshvardhan Patil said the high court had asked for an affidavit from the Home Department in this regard.

"Accordingly, the information is being provided to the Home Department," Patil said adding the administrators appointed on the apex bank had done good work.

He also said that the government was considering amending existing laws to disqualify bank directors involved in irregularities and prevent them from holding post of director in any co-operative institution.

Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse wondered why the government had not filed an FIR against the directors of MSC bank.

"Are you shying away from it because most of the directors are ministers in your government," he asked.

Patil said the government will follow all directions given by the court in this case.

Meanwhile, he informed that Nagpur, Buldhana, Jalna, Dhule- Nandurbar,Wardha and Osmanabad district co-operative banks are in dire straits and could lose their bank status.

Patil also said the time frame for repayment of loans to Land Development Banks has been extended by a year.

"As  many as 3.75 lakh farmers owe money to the land development banks. We will consider more subsidies and reduce the interest rate below below 6 per cent," he added.

There are 2.3 lakh co-operative institutions in the state with 5.5 crore members. These institutions have deposits worth Rs four lakh crore providing direct employment to over 20 lakh people.

Higher and Technical Education minister Rajesh Tope while replying to demands of his department said the government has decided to set up state skilled development council which will be headed by the chief minister.

Such councils will be set up at district level as well.

He said the Indian Institute of Information Technology would come up in Pune in which Centre will invest Rs 100 crore while state will put Rs40 crore.

Similarly, National Law Schools will be set up in Aurangabad, Mumbai and Nagpur.

This year, 14 hostels exclusively for girls will come up In 12 districts. A provision of Rs70 crore would be made which will benefit 2,250 girls. Besides, one hostel in each district of the state will be set up for students belonging to economically backward classes.

School Education Minister Rajendra Darda announced the system of central kitchen for the mid day meals in schools that will be introduced from the next academic year and would benefit a large number of students.

He also said that steps were being taken to improve the quality of the food served and check the instances of food poisoning in the schools.

Replying to debate on the budgetary demands of his department, Darda said that a pilot project of the central kitchen was successful in Aurangabad and helped in providing quality food.
