The Maharashtra government is mulling review and effective implementation of schemes of Maulana Azad Corporation and Minority Commission, in an effort to strengthen the Minorities Development Department.
The proposal to strengthen the department includes launch of online applications, development of web portal and eScholarships, a senior Mantralaya official said.
On the Wakf land issues, a mechanism is likely to be set up to deal with encroachments on Wakf land, the official told PTI. It includes re-survey of the land and setting up a tribunal at Pune.
There is also a proposal to give autonomy to Urdu Sahitya Academy and building hostels for girls from minority community in 25 districts having a large number of minority population.
To improve skill development, the government is mulling over initiatives like establishment of ITIs and polytechnics through PPP mode.
Also in the offing is setting up Business Development Centers, self Help Groups of Minority community and boosting civic amenities and infrastructure facilities in minority concentrated areas.
Special efforts will be made to promote research and development of minorities, the official added.
