In a major boost to the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited’s (MahaGenco) plans for a 150 MW solar power project at Shivajinagar in Dhule district, the union Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) has cleared the grant of 325 hectare of the forest department’s land for the project.

The decision was taken in a recent meeting of the FAC. A MahaGenco statement said that work on the project had stalled due to questions over the ownership of the land needed for it due to the records of the forest department and the affidavits filed before the Supreme Court.

Hence, the MahaGenco could not start work on the project due to land acquisition problems despite the fact that international competitive bids had been called for the project last year and work orders given.

The utility plans to start work on the project soon after completing the necessary formalities.

In the project, 100 MW will be based on crystalline technology and the remaining 50 MW on thin film technology. It will generate around 246 million units of power annually.
