Maharashtra nod for 100 fast track courts

State cabinet on Tuesday approved 110 new courts, of which 100 will be fast track courts that will deal with important cases like rape and other women related cases. The 10 metropolitan courts are also approved for various districts across the state.

The state has nearly 40lakh pending cases in various courts. Bhaskar Jadhav, minister of state for Law and Judiciary department said, “The cabinet decided to set up 100 fast track courts. Similarly 10 metropolitan courts will be set up. This would cost us Rs12 crore a year. The expenditure is to be borne by the state government.”

The courts are to be allotted according to the pendancy rate and the urgency of the disposal of the cases in the districts.
