Maharashtra government today assured that a decision on the issue of lands acquired for Reliance Maha Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Raigad district would be taken soon.

"The government will take a decision on the issue in the favour of the farmers soon. The issue would be taken up in the cabinet meeting and the government would communicate with the company (Reliance)," said deputy chief minister, Ajit Pawar, in the legislative council.

Shiv Sena MLC Ramdas Kadam had asked about the status of the acquired lands, now that the SEZ had been cancelled.

"The land acquired by the government was returned to the farmers. However, the land purchased by the company is still with it," Kadam said.

Minister of state for revenue, Prakash Solanke said the company had acquired 1,505 hectares of land, of the total 8,271 hectares area of the proposed SEZ.

"As per the state government's policy, the company cannot use the land for any other purpose except for the project," the minister said.
