The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) has decided to support the Indian Medical Association (IMA) strike on Monday.

The resident doctors will observe a black day by wearing black ribbons. However, they will attend the OPDs in public hospitals like KEM hospital in Parel or Sir JJ group of Hospitals.

The IMA has called for a nationwide strike to protest the Centre’s new National Commission for Health. The IMA has appealed to civic and public hospital doctors, homeopaths and ayurveda doctors to participate in the strike.

“The Central MARD has decided to support the IMA strike. We will ensure that health services are not affected in civic and public hospitals,” said Dr Shivkumar Kolle, general secretary Central MARD.

“Our doctors are not on strike and they have not informed me about joining the IMA strike. Our services will run as usual,” said Dr Sandhya Kamat, dean of LTMG Hospital, Sion.

The doctors practising in private hospitals and clinics will run only emergency services and will not attend OPDs.  “The people who had surgeries scheduled for June 25 have been asked to either pre-pone or postpone the surgeries,” said Dr Shekhar Galinde, managing committee member of Chembur IMA.
