The war of words between the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) does not seem to end. On Monday, Sena chief Bal Thackeray called chief minister Prithviraj Chavan ‘weak’ and incapable of delivering justice.

Referring to the letter sent to Sonia Gandhi by Aparna Malikar, a widow of a farmer from Vidarbha who had committed suicide, requesting protection from the harassment of local Congress leaders and police, Thackeray called it a disgrace to the leaders of Maharashtra.

“Aparna did not reach out to the state’s chief minister, deputy-chief minister and home minister because it is impossible to get justice or possible action on goons from them... The CM has no guts to take action and the deputy CM has no trace of morality in him. His entire politics is to protect goons,” said Thackeray, in his editorial in Saamna, the party mouthpiece.

“We will show our power at the right time, but if his government had a little bit of power, then goons of Congress and Police would not have dared to target Aparna Malikar,” said the editorial.
