Maharashtra assembly: Opposition demands free homes for mill workers

Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly today stalled the proceedings of the Lower House demanding free homes for mill workers. Shiv Sena members wore T-shirts with slogans of free houses for the mill workers while MNS legislators displayed cloth banners. Shiv Sena-BJP-MNS members gathered in the well as soon as the House assembled for the day.

When the Speaker Dilip Walse Patil called for the Question Hour, Leader of opposition Eknath Khadse urged the Speaker to take up discussion on an adjournment notice given by the Opposition members about setting aside the Question Hour and taking up debate on the issue of free houses of mill workers.

The House had to be adjourned thrice. First for ten minutes, later till the end of the Question Hour at noon and again till 1am, for the third time. Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray and MNS chief Raj Thackeray are to lead rallies in the city demanding free homes to the mill workers.

Meanwhile, the Legislative Council was also adjourned thrice today over the issue of mill workers. The first adjournment came around 11.45am following which it resumed at noon. When the commotion on the matter still continued it was again adjourned twice--first for twenty minutes and then till one in the afternoon.
