Construction quality of buildings built by Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) would be under scanner of Maharashtra government.
Chief minister Ashok Chavan recently directed the housing department to formulate a policy for inspection of construction of buildings under the SRA scheme.
"Taking cognisance of complaints about poor quality construction of some of the redeveloped buildings by the SRA, Chavan has asked the housing department to inspect the construction quality," an official from the department said.
The chief minister asked to make a "defect liability" clause mandatory for all SRA schemes, and a third party audit by prominent institutions, the official said.
Also, buildings under construction should be checked to maintain the quality of flats, the official said.
The responsibility of the quality and maintenance should be entrusted to the developer, he added.
The housing department would soon draft a policy to scan the SRA buildings, and submit it for approval of the cabinet, the official said.
