The state unit of All India Gas Distributors Association (AIGDA) has accused the Union government and a section of the customers for the poor services rendered by the Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) dealers in Maharashtra.

Addressing media persons on Monday, former AIGDA president and chief of HP Gas Dealers Association, Pune Suhas Dhamdhere said that the dealers should not be blamed if customers are not satisfied with the services.

“The LPG dealers are the ones who are always blamed for poor services. However, the negligent attitude of the government towards us and the misuse of LPG by a section of customers affects our services and administration,’’ Dhamdhere said.

Demanding a higher commission, the federation said in 1966, the cost of gas cylinder was Rs17.83 while the commission was Rs3.37 which was 18.90%.

“Now, the cost of cylinder has gone up to Rs400 while the commission is Rs25.84 which is mere 6.45%,’’ he added.
Dhamdhere questioned how the dealers would provide quality service with such a meagre commission.

“We have demanded to the Union government that the percentage of commission paid in 1966 should be paid now,’’ he said stressing that higher commission is imperative for the dealers to improve the quality of service.

Dhamdhere lamented the dealers have to work under severe pressure from political leaders, mafia and government officers. “If the dealers fail to satisfy these persons, they threaten to sue us,’’ he lamented.

Dhamdhere also felt that the customers’ behaviour and attitude also affects the services of the gas
dealers.

“There are customers who misbehave with the delivery boys. Moreover, they use LPG cylinders to operate vehicles and geysers. There are customers who use domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purpose. These malpractices need to be stopped,’’ he said.
