Netizens across the country have come out strongly in support of veteran social activist Anna Hazare’s fast against corruption.
Social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook are flooded with posts about Hazare’s endeavour. Twitteratis have made Hazare’s fast the most talked-about topic for two consecutive days. On an average, there was one tweet per five seconds about him. Several Facebook users put up status updates about him.
Reeling under the World Cup hangover, one person said: “He is playing the skipper’s knock for the Aam Aadmi”. Many enthusiasts asked all Indians to wake up and join Hazare. @rteekaytweets said: “If promoting corruption is strengthening of democracy, I agree Anna Hazare is a blackmailer and should be hanged!” @winniesingh appealed to the masses, saying, “All for Anna Hazare. Join the movement. India needs you”.
Recounting Hazare’s contribution to the Right to Information movement, @amarlibra said: “Anna Hazare struggled for several years for this cause. His efforts made possible the RTI Act. He is really a great man. We must join him”.
Along with praise for Hazare, there was flak for politicians. @Ibnebatuta tweeted: “Politicians who survive on corruption and nepotism are suddenly voicing support for Anna Hazare’s crusade. Physician, heal thyself first”.
