Left parties protest Obama's visit

Left parties today staged protests here against US President Barack Obama's India visit, demanding justice for Bhopal gas tragedy victims and accusing the United States of not helping India on terrorism issue.

Activists of CPI, CPI(M), Forward Block and Krantikari Samajwadi Party demonstrated at the bustling Churchgate station, demanding that Obama, who arrived here earlier today, return to the US immediately.

"The US is not helping India to fight against terrorism and deliberately withheld information about David Headley's involvement in 26/11 terror attacks," a CPI leader said.

America has not handed over former Union Carbide chief Warren Anderson who was "responsible" for the Bhopal gas tragedy, to India, he said.

Police said around 40 protesters were held and taken to Azad Maidan police station.
