When Yadnya Tulapurkar decided to run the half marathon two years ago, her only goal was to test her physical endurance.

“I had been running the 7km dream run for a couple of years and had stopped finding it challenging or fun. So I felt I was finally ready to push my body further and increase the distance to 21 km,” she says.

The 37-year-old insists that she finds running and preparing for the half marathon a fulfilling and addictive sport. “It has helped me stretch my emotional and physical boundaries while improving my fitness levels,” she adds.

Tulapurkar, who works as a project manager at an ITES company in Powai, successfully juggles a high-stress job with her exercise regime. “With consistency and persistence anyone can set and achieve fitness goals,” says the half -marathoner who combines weight training, cardio exercises and yoga to remain in peak shape.

“Another thing is to understand your body and set achievable goals,” she adds.

The Vashi resident, who often jogs along the Palm Beach Road to prepare herself for long-distance road running, says that she has been steadily extending her personal fitness commitments over the years. “I have been pushing myself to get better set by step,” she says.

Tulapurkar, who has been inspired by her yoga teacher father to live a fitter and more active life, has managed to convince some of her friends and family members to take up running too. “Its good to have someone who shares the passion and doubles the fun of excercising,” she feels.

For first-timers at the Stayfree DNA I Can Women’s Half Marathon, that will be held on March 11, Tulapurkar has a few simple tips. “Just do it. Run for yourself and have fun,” she says.
