The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) standing committee chairman, Sharangdhar Deshmukh, and his five colleagues were booked for allegedly kidnapping and collecting a ransom of Rs1 crore from a youth on Sunday.
In another incident, one Amol Potdar has been booked for allegedly duping 15 job-seeking youths of Rs46 lakh.
The case against Deshmukh and his colleagues were filed after Amol’s father Bal approached the high court seeking directions to the police to inquire into the matter. He accused the police of turning a blind eye despite a written plea to the superintendent of police Vijaysinh Jadhav due to Deshmukh’s proximity to state minister Satej Patil.
Amol filed a complaint on Sunday claiming that he collected Rs61 lakh from a few youths with Deshmukh acting as the mediator. He said Deshmukh kidnapped me on November 12, 2011, for recovering the money.
