Kingfisher Red does away with free meals

Passengers tucking into scrumptious complimentary food on the low-cost arm of Kingfisher Airlines (KFA) for the last three years will now have to pay for it. The airline has finally decided to return to ground realities of running a low cost airline. KFA has started selling food on board its low-cost carrier (LCC) Kingfisher Red (KFR) from January 15, 2011.

This is one of the changes brought in by new chief executive officer (CEO) Sanjay Aggarwal. “Effective January 15, KFA will discontinue complimentary meal service on flights operating as KFR service and replace this with buy-on-board Sky Treats”, said the spokesperson for KFA.

The sale of food on KFR was a long-pending issue and the airline backed off in 2009 from bringing it into effect. It was the only LCC that offered free food even during the recession.
